Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to establish a systematic and transparent process for evaluating the performance of teaching and non-teaching staff. The appraisal aims to recognize achievements, identify areas for improvement, promote professional development, and align individual performance with institutional goals and quality standards.

Objectives

  • To assess staff performance in relation to institutional vision and mission.
  • To encourage accountability, productivity, and innovation in professional practices.
  • To identify training and development needs.
  • To support decisions related to promotions, incentives, and recognition.
  • To enhance overall institutional performance through continuous improvement.

Scope

This policy applies to all categories of staff:

  • Teaching Staff (Faculty Members)
  • Technical and Administrative Staff
  • Supporting Staff

 Appraisal Cycle

The performance appraisal shall be conducted annually, typically at the end of each academic year. The appraisal outcomes shall be reviewed by the Performance Appraisal Committee constituted by the Principal/IQAC.

Appraisal Components

  1. Teaching Staff
  • Academic Performance: Teaching effectiveness, student feedback, and innovation in pedagogy.
  • Research and Development: Publications, projects, patents, and participation in FDPs or workshops.
  • Institutional Contribution: Committee participation, mentoring, and extension activities.
  • Professional Ethics and Conduct: Regularity, punctuality, discipline, and teamwork.
  1. Non-Teaching and Supporting Staff
  • Work efficiency and task completion.
  • Technical or administrative skill proficiency.
  • Initiative and problem-solving ability.
  • Attendance, punctuality, and discipline.
  • Cooperation and attitude towards institutional goals.

Appraisal Methodology

  • Self-Appraisal: Each staff member submits a self-assessment form highlighting achievements and development needs.
  • Reporting Officer Evaluation: The Head of Department or Section Head reviews and rates the performance objectively.
  • Committee Review: The Appraisal Committee reviews the consolidated reports and provides final recommendations.
  • Feedback and Counseling: Constructive feedback shall be provided to the staff with suggestions for improvement.

Incentives and Rewards

Outstanding performers may be recognized through:

  • Appreciation certificates
  • Consideration for promotion or increment
  • Nominations for awards or special assignments

Confidentiality

All appraisal records and ratings will be treated as confidential and used solely for institutional development and HR decisions.

Review and Revision

The policy shall be reviewed periodically by the IQAC to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with institutional goals and accreditation requirements.
