  1. Lecture on “Foundation Design: From Geotechnical Data to Engineering Decisions” by Dr. Jayamohan J, Director LBSCST, Chairperson IGS Thiruvananthapuram Chapter was conducted on 20-08-2026.
  2. Lecture on “How to construct good GRS walls for highways” by Dr. Amit Prashanth, BIS Standardisation Chair Professor, IIT Gandhinagar was conducted on 19-08-2026.
  3. Lecture on “Ground Improvement Project at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport” by Dr. Jayamohan J, Director, LBSCST, Chairperson, IGS Thiruvananthapuram Chapter was conducted on 03-08-2026.
  4. Lecture on “Case Studies of Numerical Modelling in Geotechnical Engineering” by Dr. Jayamohan J, Joint Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology was conducted on 18-02-2026.
  5. “Retain and Reign”, a scaled retaining wall construction competition evaluated through load testing and stability, was conducted on 08-02-2026.
  6. “Touch and Tell – Soil Edition”, a hands-on competition where 34 students identified soil types using tactile observation, was conducted on 07-02-2026.
  7. “Geo Craze”, a three-round MCQ technical quiz with 54 participants competing in pairs, was conducted on 07-02-2026.
  8. An educational visit to ITPI Building Construction Site was conducted on 16-01-2026, where 43 final-year students observed pile cap execution, foundation loading, and soft soil challenges.
  9. The IGS Student Chapter Magazine “GEONIX” was formally released by Er. Jayakumar J on 16-12-2025.
  10. A student-led technical session on “Reinforced Soil Systems” covering soil reinforcement mechanisms and retaining wall applications was conducted on 16-12-2025.
  11. “Ground Up”, an exhibition displaying models of soil nailing, coir geotextiles, geogrids, and slope stabilization, was conducted on 16-12-2025.
  12. “TERRAHACK 2025”, a geotechnical hackathon with 55 participants solving embankment failure issues in soft clay in Kuttanad, was conducted on 17-09-2025 and 19-09-2025.
  13. “The Engineer’s Edge”, an online student presentation competition on real-world geotechnical case studies, was conducted as part of Engineer’s Day celebrations on 15-09-2025.
  14. A site visit to the State Soil Museum and Soil Information Centre was conducted on 29-07-2025, providing S5 students with practical exposure to soil types, properties, and geotechnical applications.
  15. A one-day symposium on “Forensic Investigation of Geotechnical Distress along NH-66” focusing on geotechnical failures, soil characterization, and site quality control was conducted on 16-07-2025.
  16. The IGS Student Chapter Executive Committee Election was conducted and the Executive Committee 2025–2026 was formed on 11-07-2025.

  40. The Annual General Body Meeting was conducted for the inauguration of the new IGS Chapter by Dr. Shalini U, Principal Scientist, NATPAC.

Indian Concrete Institute (ICI)

  1. A site visit to Thenmala Dam for third-year students was conducted on 05-08-2026.
  2. “Weekly Quiz & Friday Facts”, an ongoing weekly digital/in-person learning initiative covering concrete technology and industry news, was conducted.
  3. “Caption the Wall”, a creative engineering event where 53 students wrote technical and witty captions for structural failure images, was conducted on 07-02-2026.
  4. “Foundation Forge”, an interactive workshop featuring foundation design theory followed by wire/model fabrication, was conducted from 07-02-2026 to 09-02-2026.
  5. “Civil Dumbcharades”, a non-verbal technical terms guessing game aimed at reinforcing civil engineering vocabulary, was conducted on 07-02-2026.
  6. “Tower of Tension”, a model tower-building competition using straws and pins to test load distribution and balance, was conducted on 07-02-2026.
  7. An expert talk titled “A Gateway to BIM Excellence” by Ms. Anitha Shamla, BIM Café Learning Hub was conducted on 25-10-2025.
  8. A site visit to Kallada Dam, Thenmala, was conducted on 14-10-2025, where final-year students learned about gravity dam components, inspection galleries, spillways, and safety systems.
  9. An expert talk titled “Spanning the Impossible – An Introduction to Bridge Engineering” by Er. Varsha A., L&T Construction was conducted on 29-09-2025.
  10. A technical talk titled “Knowledge to Practice” by Er. Shelly S. Fernandez on ready-mix concrete execution, site practices, and quality control was conducted on 25-09-2025.
  11. “Tech-It-Out”, a puzzle-solving and PowerPoint presentation competition on concrete technology for S5 and S7 students, was conducted on 11-09-2025.
  12. An expert talk titled “Good Concrete” by Er. Anwar Hussain on quality concrete characteristics, mix proportioning, durability, and quality control was conducted on 11-09-2025.
  13. An expert talk titled “From Campus to Construction – My Journey as a Civil Engineer” sharing professional experience and transition from academics to the construction industry was conducted on 14-08-2025.

  22. “Structura”, a model bridge-making competition using ice-cream sticks to demonstrate structural load distribution, was conducted.
  23. “Civil Centrino”, a multi-round technical competition with puzzle-solving and quizzes for third-semester students, was conducted.

A site visit to World Market Construction Site was conducted on 20-09-2025, where S5 students inspected cast-in-situ piles, pile caps, and pedestal column construction

The Student Chapter successfully organized TERRAHACK 2025 – A Geotechnical Hackathon on September 17th and 19th, 2025. The event was conceived to provide students with a platform to address real-world geotechnical challenges through innovation, technical expertise and teamwork. The problem statement was derived from the failure of embankments during monsoon in Puthenarayiram Paddy fields, Kundarikund, Kuttanad, Kerala, a region known for its soft clay soil and recurring flood-induced bund collapses. Teams were asked to propose sustainable, practical, and technically sound solutions to mitigate this long-standing geotechnical challenge. 55 students participated and the hackathon witnessed highly insightful and practical approaches from the participants. The finalist teams showcased innovative designs, ranging from ground improvement techniques to sustainable embankment stabilization systems
