First International Conference on Sustainable Technologies and Sciences (ICSTS 2025) organized by LBS Institute of Technology for Women from 4th to 6th December 2025, focusing on sustainable technologies and sciences across five engineering tracks: Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering.
Sixth National Conference on Soils and Foundations (SAF-2024) and 7th T. S. Ramanatha Ayyer Memorial Lecture conducted from 15th to 17th February 2024, providing a platform for academicians, researchers, practicing engineers, and students to exchange knowledge in Geotechnical Engineering, Foundation Engineering, and Ground Improvement. Eleven women professionals in Geotechnical Engineering were honoured for their contributions to the field.
Second International Conference GeoTrans 2022 organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, LBS Institute of Technology for Women, with technical support from the Indian Geotechnical Society – Thiruvananthapuram Chapter, NATPAC, and TC 202 of ISSMGE, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration in Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering, with financial support from TEQIP Four Funds.

Seminars and Symposiums

The IGS Student Chapter, Department of Civil Engineering, LBSITW, organized a one-day symposium on “Forensic Investigation of Geotechnical Distress along NH-66” on 16 July 2025 at the Main Seminar Hall. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Rahul Krishna Sharma IAS, Project Director, Kerala State Transport Project. Dr. M. Abdul Rahiman, Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, delivered the presidential address. Technical sessions by Dr. K. Balan and Dr. N. Unnikrishnan examined the causes of geotechnical distress, highlighting soil identification errors, inadequate compaction, poor construction practices, and quality-control issues. The symposium was attended by around 300 students, faculty, consultants, and scientists, providing an engaging platform for discussions on forensic geotechnical engineering and safe infrastructure development.
The Third Annual T. K. Gopalakrishnan Nair Memorial Lecture and TC 107 Symposium on Tropical Residual Soils was organized by the IGS Student Chapter, LBSITW, in association with the IGS Thiruvananthapuram Chapter and ISSMGE TC 107, on 12 February 2025. The event was inaugurated by Dr. K. Sivaprasad, Vice Chancellor, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. Key lectures were delivered by Er. Ahmed Chraibi, Dr. K. Balan, and Dr. Purnanand Savoikar, covering global challenges, experiences, landslides, and control measures related to tropical residual soils. The symposium received 57 technical papers from institutions across India and attracted 217 delegates from academia, industry, consultancy, and research.
The 7th T. S. Ramanatha Iyer Memorial Lecture was organized by the IGS Student Chapter, LBSITW, at the Main Seminar Hall on 15 February 2024. Dr. N. Unnikrishnan, Chairman, IGS Thiruvananthapuram Chapter, introduced T. S. Ramanatha Iyer. The memorial lecture was delivered by Dr. B. K. Maheshwari, Professor of Soil Dynamics, Department of Earthquake Engineering, IIT Roorkee, on “Seismic Soil-Structure Interaction – CPRF for Design of NPPs.”
The 2nd Annual Commemorative Lecture in memory of Dr. T. K. Gopalakrishnan Nair was organized by the IGS Student Chapter, LBSITW, in association with ISSMGE, on 15 September 2023. The online technical lecture was delivered by Dr. Puranand Savoikar, Member, TC107, Chairman, IGS Goa Chapter, and Professor, Goa Engineering College, on “Effect of Clay Minerals on Geotechnical Properties of Lateritic Soils.”
