Space Club
The space club was formally inaugurated in the year 2016 by the collaborated effort of students and faculty members of LBS Institute of Technology for Women. The club has formed by the great initiative taken by Dr.Shiju P.P, who was then HoD, ECE with his vision to launch a women only satellite “WESAT”. The space club is now working under the advisor ship of Dr.Lizy Abraham, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE. We used to conduct brainstorming sessions every Friday and invited lectures from experts in space and related fields.
Space Club’s activities inculcate scientific temper & the love for science and astronomy amongst the students. The members of the club were selected as a result of critical scrutiny process, that is, first by a test and then by an interview. Approximately 15 members are recruited every year.
The Space Club hosts devoted women with interest in space and related science, willing to contribute to the advancement of mankind in space. We aim to become the first women only club to launch a fully flexed student satellite into space. Till date there are 40 members in the club and we hope to flourish in the coming future.
The club members have done an intense study of Satellites launched by Indian Universities, Satellites launched by Foreign Universities and Measurable Space parameters (both radiative and gaseous). After a couple of brain storming sessions and discussions with scientists from VSSC, finally we have formulated our mission objective. Based on the mission objective our plan is to launch a fully functional payload in phase I and after the successful launch of the payload, we plan to launch a satellite in phase II. Since the mission objective is finalized, our preliminary works start with the design of payload.
News:- Space club proposal has been shortlisted for launching a payload to PS4 orbital platform by ISRO and a high level technical meeting is conducted with the space club team on 7 January 2021.
